Hawke’s Bay Cyclone Laundry Network

This volunteer network was set up in March 2023 to support Cyclone affected families and those working in the clean-up, delivering 3,600 loads of washing over a seven month period.

The initiative led by Georgina Miller and Annabel Mason drew from a group of 200 local volunteers, aged from 21 to 83 years of age to collect, wash, dry, fold, and deliver laundry each day.

The Evergreen Foundation was able to step in when the Laundry Network expanded thanks to Mr Apple offering a local RSE laundry facility in its off-peak season.  Evergreen funded washing powder and petrol vouchers for volunteers at a critical time meaning the network could further support its volunteers to help many families in need and in temporary accommodation get through the winter with clean and dry clothing, towels, and bedding.
